It is so cool...Sandy and I are hanging out in our hotel room...holding hands....reading cards from loved ones....crying....laughing....and as soon as I finish writing this we will go for a walk date and then watch a movie while she takes in antibiotics! Wow...a perfect Friday night. Hope your night is as good as ours... :)
Finishing up yesterday's news....Sandy again developed a fever in the afternoon...but seemed to keep it managed with tylenol, etc. However, the reality of an infection does seem to be what we are facing so the installation of an intravenous port is definitely on hold for the foreseeable future. Teresa Buss spent the evening with Sandy while I had some Daddy time and after snuggling with Benjamin and putting him to bed I came back up to the hospital to spend the night. Before that I got to have a few minutes visit with my sister Janet. So good to have more family here!
Today....things continued...antibiotics every 6 hours and a visit from one of the doctors talking about Coumadin and watching our diet, etc. Sandy finally got off her IV so now she can walk without a pole any more and feels much freer.
The big challenge currently is the seemingly brewing infection in a part of her incision. Dr. Beck is pretty sure that there is an abscess and is hoping that antibiotics will defeat it..but if not he may need to open part of the incision back up and then I will need to stuff gauze in there a couple of times per day. Wow...as Sandy and I say...."for better or for worse." So..if you are talking with God tonight we ask that you think about Sandy's belly getting better so we don't have to have her opened up again.
Thanks for the many cards, notes, and blog messages we have received. They make us cry...laugh...smile...and mostly they make us feel very cared for. Sandy just walked up to me and said she is ready to go for a walk so here we go.
Have a great weekend. Love, Phil

Thinking of you both often -- I have another misdirected card for Sandy I will drop by your house on Saturday -- that's tomorrow in case you have forgotten what day it is, Phil! :) Sending prayers up with the kids in a minute...Judy
ReplyDeleteHighland Park Suite hotel room, eh? OK Phil, It's decided. If I ever run for public office, I'm hiring you as my public relations guy - you can put a positive spin on anything! I think that's just what the situation calls for and I'm so glad that Sandy has you to do that, and so many other things for her. I fully expect the fever and infection to go away, but in the mean time, I won't be surprised if you start to refer to it by describing how "Sandy is providing a warm environment for all her hospital visitors both large and small." :)
ReplyDeleteKeeping you in prayer..........thanks for taking the time to keep up the blog so even 'old' friends can feel close. Sandy, I was thinking of fun times we had, oh, could it really be over 20 years ago?. Anyway, not sure if you remember, but we never did put on our dual headphones and dance across the football field like they did in "Footloose" - I guess we need to set a date for that as soon as you feel up to it! Love you, wish I could jump on a plane and come see you. God bless all of you! Love, Marian (Helsel, that is!)
