Ode to my ovaries (with all due respect to Joyce Kilmer)

I think again I'll never see
my lovely set of ovaries.
They served me fine, they served me well
Delivering my monthly swell.
Two score plus 4 they stayed around
In my reproductive ground.
At 41 they peaked, and then
Nine months later, they gave me Ben.
For that gift I'm ever grateful
Since cancer took them, ever fateful.
As to this cancer, this too shall pass
Because I've opened up Whoopa$$!
And ovaries, I bid adieu
And for my son, I thank you, thank you.

  2. Actually, I've always had a penchant for writing parodies, mostly song parodies. In this case it's a poem parody. You should see the song parody I did to Oh Christmas Tree based on an unfortunate series of events in the bathroom at GMAC. I think it's the one I'm most proud of :o). Hmmm, maybe that's saying something...

  3. Sandy, you are amazing. I don't think I've laughed (and sniffled) so hard over a piece of writing for a long time! I love song parodies too. Perhaps there is a Whoopa$$ song lurking in the wings somewhere. I will have to ponder this.

  16. My first thought when I checked out Uncle Blodge's blog was what a lovely, brave, and funny women, but that might be too cornball, so, "Kick its ass!"
