Wednesday

Sandy continues to perk up each day and it is cool to see the progress she is making. Benjamin and Sandy had a blast seeing each other yesterday...he sat on a chair staring at his Mom and seemed to totally understand that he couldn't get up on her lap. He also sensed that he needed to be calm and did a great job of it for over 1/2 hour. What a trooper...and in fact when it was time to leave he gave her a kiss and left without a fuss. What a cool reunion.

Rebekah and Sue B then visited throughout the dinner hour so that I could have more quality time with Benjamin and Nan and Pop. It was a great dinner and then I put Benjamin to bed...he wanted to snuggle with his Dada...and I was grateful to oblige!

Today has been a busy day withe lots of doctors and nurses in and out and I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Law who was referred to us by Dr. Beck as an expert in chemotherapy. She visited with us for quite a while and we have another meeting with her at noon tomorrow to discuss more details hopefully with the pathology report completed.

In the mean time Sandy's hemoglobin count is down and so they are pumping two pints of blood into her to help her body get the extra it needs to help with healing and to get ready for minor surgery tomorrow afternoon, where they will insert a port into her vein. As you might recall she already has a port into her abdomen for direct chemo but it seems to be important to have an alternative location as well....in addition, some people seem to be able to handle one or the other better...this way we have chemo options. In addition, they have ordered a CAT scan for today to check on blood clots, etc. in anticipation of this minor surgery tomorrow. See...busy day!

We just said goodbye to Nan and Pop who have been such a tremendous help. Nan has loved organizing our kitchen and they have brought a lot of fun to Benjamin, etc. We are grateful for all of the time they spent at the hospital and we wish them a safe drive home. My sister Janet arrives tomorrow afternoon and it will be so great to have additional help.

Thanks to Peb and Mace and Karl and Linda for sending us flowers yesterday. All of these gestures help us to remember that we are not fighting this alone. I'm off to go and support Sandy some more and hope to see Benjamin later on.

Love to all, Phil

  2. Thanks for the update. We keep reading it. Keep up the good work. We're sending positive thoughts and payers your way. Stay strong. One thought I kept in mind when I was going through chemo was Churchill's words: when going through hell, keep going.
Take care, Mauro, Jenny and Lysandra
