I just left the hospital with Keith after an hour visit. Before that I was home for about 3 hours and it was so great to hold and hug Benjamin. He was definitely excited to see me but probably curious why Sandy was not with me and why I was crying so much. Nonetheless, holding your own child is so helpful.
I then thought I had my emotions under control but then I read e-mails, facebook, and this blog and the tears came back. Thanks for all of the amazing things you have all said. In addition, we have felt so many prayers coming our way; it is truly overwhelming.
Sandy's color in her face has come back remarkably throughout the day. She even smiled a little at me tonight but is still very tired and needs to sleep as much as possible. Dr. Beck had her admitted into ICU for tonight and that meant that I was not allowed to sleep in her room. So I will get some sleep at home and then head up with Kirsty first thing tomorrow morning. Hopefully we will get a new room at some point tomorrow and we will also be able to visit with Dr. Beck. Speaking of Dr. Beck he did such a great job today. It was the real deal and he did it so well!
Benjamin is now sleeping, Sandy is self-medicating, and soon I will lay my head down. I trust we will all sleep well. Love to all!

My view from the waiting room
Phil asked that we give a little perspective having spent the morning and afternoon at the hospital today. Keith and I were both so impressed with the doctor - what a nice presence and calm manner he has. I think we all were quite relieved after speaking to him knowing the surgery was over and that Sandy had come through it so well. Phil did a great job of keeping it together but nerves were definitely working on him as the clock ticked by. I think he was fairly antsy as he waited to physically see her and he relaxed a bit after that.
While waiting for Sandy to arrive in her room Kirsty Burnham and I visited with Phil as he was verbally processing a lot of this stuff. Many thoughts are on his mind some of which are childcare, help for Sandy, chemo, etc. Lots of details to attend to and not much information as yet. Plenty of information will be coming at them this next week and plans will get made as they need to.
Phil was mentioning again today as he has every day just how grateful he and Sandy are for all of the love, support, prayers, phone calls, emails, hugs, etc that they have received. They are feeling the love and will need to keep feeling this influx for a while. Keep it coming!
Phil just called and he can't stay overnight in ICU as originally hoped/planned. He's headed home to spend time with Benjamin, have dinner and then put him to bed before heading back up for the evening. Either Keith or I will go up with him tonight and keep him company on the trip. Kirsty is there now doing jin shin on Sandy as she has been throughout the last few days and Bucky and June Magro are there now as well. Sandy is being well looked after by hospital staff, family and friends and we're all so appreciative of the great care she's getting. Phil may blog later - I suggested he use that time to spend with Benjamin who is probably missing Mom and Dad a lot today. Sue and Joe did a great job keeping him happy and entertained but a little father-son time now would probably work wonders for both Phil and Benjamin.
On behalf of the Magro and Parker families thanks to everyone for your love and prayers for Phil & Sandy. They were clearly answered today and we are feeling blessed to have such a caring network of family and friends.

Update on Sandy
I just want to clarify that, in fact, Dr. Beck found nodules (not tumors) on the rectum and diaphragm.
Also, I was just told that he said that he's optimistic that Sandy will have a full recovery. That's really good news.

Sandy's surgery
Hi Everyone,
This is Rebekah writing for Phil. He just called me from the hospital with the update on Sandy's surgery. Her cancer was found to be ovarian stage 3C. The surgeon also found tumor(s?) on her rectum and diaphragm but not on her liver, as originally thought. He did a full hysterectomy, removed the omentum, and removed the other tumors. I guess he left some there so that when she has chemo, the chemo will have something to attack (according to Phil). He did put a shunt in for the chemotherapy. In three to five days he will get the pathological report which will give more information. Phil said that Dr. Beck was optimistic and upbeat and felt the surgery went well.
Sandy is currently in ICU and probably will be overnight.
I will update this for Phil when I get more info.
Keep the bright, funny, beautiful, loving spirit of Sandy in your thoughts and prayers, as I know you already are. Her presence in our lives is a gift to all of us. I know she is determined to fight the fight so that she can live her life to the fullest.
