Wednesday news...day started real early today!

As you may be aware Sandy has been having some vaginal bleeding since Sunday...apparently 30% of patients have some spotting after this major of surgery. However, Sandy's "flow" has been increasing daily especially around 10 PM when she takes the cumindin. Last night, the flow got "out of control" (for the ladies out there....one full pad every hour) for 5 or more hours. Sandy asked me to call Dr. Beck and he encouraged us to go to the ER so we went back to the Highland Park Suite...how lovely!

They drew some blood and counts were all fine (INR is now 1.6 - was 1.5 on Sunday - needs to be between 2 and 3 to stop the Lovenox shots) so Dr. Beck asked the ER doctor to "look around." She put some gauze in and sent us home knowing we had a 10 AM appointment with Dr. Beck. Sandy tried to sleep and I drank coffee...what else do you do after only 2 hours of sleep! Other suggestions please let me know :)

Dr. Beck was great again as always. He removed all of the staples and praised me on my fine work on the wound....the infection site is no longer an infection and other than some strips on her abdomen...her tummy looks fantastic! Although its important to note that Sandy now has more cumulative length of scars than I have....I use to hold that title in our family proudly! Sandy however has now been anointed and accepted the new title with gusto!

As for the bleeding...Dr. Beck could not find the source (same as the ER doc could not) of the blood other than it has to do with the top of the vagina (the only possible location) and as you might recall...she is on anti-clotting drugs for the clots in the lungs but this also makes clotting in other areas challenging. So it is the whole benefit vs. risk challenge and he is very convinced that he needs to keep Sandy on the anti-clotting drugs. However he applied some "glue" to the top of the vagina and so far it has held for more than an hour. Yeah...Dr. Beck! (If it does not hold than Sandy will have some surgery tomorrow to repair! Boy is she hoping against this...as I'm sure we all are!)

She is now on bed rest for the rest of the day and will only get up for the bathroom and when we go for the Cumidin appointment. I really hope she is able to sleep until then. I am currently debating between sleep and exercise. Your thoughts?

Very exciting for Benjamin yesterday as Celia came back and he was just as excited to see her today. Celia, Benjamin, and Jan went to the Children's Museum and B is now napping!

In closing, the new prayer is...please keep the seal from leaking! Take care, Phil
